Release 7.6

2nd February 2007

The next major release of GuardIEn and genIE is now available.

GuardIEn and genIE Release 7.6 are now available for download from the IET web site.

Highlights of this major new release include:

Support for Gen r7.6 Compatibility Option

GuardIEn has been extensively enhanced to support the new z/OS dynamic linking 'compatibility' option. For comprehensive details on this, see the Technical Papers manual supplied with the GuardIEn client installation.

Location Updating

Location Updating is a major new feature of the GuardIEn system updating module. Location Updates are used to update a software location using GuardIEn when there is no associated Gen model. Essentially they allow software source and executable code to be distributed to another location once it has been successfully implemented using a normal GuardIEn System Update.

genIE Packaging

genIE Packaging is a new feature of genIE. With genIE Packaging, you can view and amend load module packaging, source member names, z/OS dynamic linking options and business system defaults. It also provides an enhanced tool for viewing and amending z/OS Dynamic Linking options across multiple models.

Development Update Enhancements

1) Entity Types and Work Attribute Sets can now be scoped into a development update so that the impact of changes to these objects can be assessed.

2) XOS objects can now be scoped into the content of a development update so that they can be processed by an XO Process.

Enhanced Search Facility

GuardIEn Search fields that allow the use of % as a wild card now also support the use of & to search for the terms in any order. For example, in the Deliverable List, entering AB%CD would list deliverables whose name contained the strings AB and CD in that order, whereas entering AB&CD would list deliverables whose name contained these strings in any order.

Resizable Windows and Dialog Boxes

Most windows and dialog boxes within GuardIEn have been enhanced using IETeGUI's window resize functionality. This provides a huge number of resizable windows, complete with automatic remembering of size/position and tracking of controls within the windows (e.g. resizing list boxes to match the window size etc.). See the IETeGUI pages for more details on how it can be applied to your own Gen GUI applications.

Generate ALTER DDL

The Object List+ Database Compare facility now provides the ability to generate ALTER TABLE statements to add missing columns or modify existing columns.
