Release 8.0
5th May 2010
Release 8.0 is now available for download from the IET web site. This release implements over 100 enhancements to GuardIEn, the Assistants, XOS, genIE, Object List+ and VerifIEr. Most of these enhancements have been requested by customers and improve the products functionality, usability and performance.
Full details of the enhancements can be found in the Release Notes.
You can also view a 15 minute video that introduces Release 8.0 and includes a demonstration of the major new features.
Gen r8.0 Support
GuardIEn 8.0 provides support for Gen r8.0, and is required if you use Gen r8.0. Note that GuardIEn 8.0 can be used with earlier releases of Gen.
Gen Studio Plug-in
A new IET Tools plug-in is available for CA Gen Studio. In addition to providing direct access to GuardIEn, the free plug-in comes with an action diagram viewer that enables you to browse action diagrams from within Gen Studio. More details...
Change Analysis
A new Change Analysis utility allows you to easily view the changes applied to Gen or External objects for a Change Request or Release Pack by comparing the object changed for the selected CR/RP versus a previous object. It also contains a summary feature that will show the number of added, changed and deleted lines of code between the current and previous versions.
New Compare Tool
The default file comparison tool supplied with GuardIEn 8.0 is changed to Beyond Compare and the GuardIEn licence will include a licence for using Beyond Compare.
Merge Versions
A new Merge Versions utility is available to merge two versions into one, often when a new version has been accidentally created.
Show & Explain SQL
In the PAD Editor you can now select a READ/READ EACH / SUMMARISE statement and show the generated SQL. This requires the source code to have been generated and up to date. For certain databases (DB2, Oracle, SQL Server) you can also view the EXPLAIN output for the statement.
Virtual XOs
XOS has been enhanced to introduce the concept of virtual external objects. A Virtual External Object represents an external object that is not actually stored in XOS as a physical file or matched to a GuardIEn deliverable. It is only defined to XOS so that associations from it can be defined in the XOS database for impact analysis and reporting purposes. The benefit of using Virtual XOs is that they allow you to easily define and maintain the associations between complex external programs and Gen objects within XOS without having to individually maintain the external programs within XOS.
Audit Logging
A new feature in GuardIEn is the ability to log changes to System and Project Definition tables.
Tutorial
A new tutorial facility is provided in GuardIEn that enables you to easily setup the course exercises for a new GuardIEn training course and then take the course with embedded course notes and exercises.
