Subset
Assistant
The Subset Assistant
simplifies the process of subset definition on the CA Gen Host and Client/Server
Encyclopaedias, significantly reducing the time and effort normally associated
with this task.
Easier...
- There are a variety of
powerful scoping tools to make it easy to select the required objects. Examples
include a fast object list with full wild card selection, selection based
on usage by or associations to other objects and a 'when changed' list.
- The 'usage' tool is especially
useful for scoping objects because a common difficulty in scoping a subset
is finding related objects, for example, all objects that use a common action
block could be easily scoped into a subset if you wanted to change the import
or export views.
- The selection tools are
common to GuardIEn and all of the Assistant products.
Faster...
- There are automatic links
to enable a download using the Task Assistant on the client/server encyclopaedia
or via a batch job on a host encyclopaedia.
- There is integration
with GuardIEn to enable you to quickly create a subset definition from a GuardIEn
Change Request and Development Update.
Accurate...
- Often you will want to
scope a group of related objects into a subset to accomplish a specific task.
Rather than having to pick objects from a simple list, the Subset Assistant's
variety of selection tools make it easier to find the right objects for the
subset. An example would be selecting all action blocks that are used by an
action block when you want to modify called action blocks, or which have a
dialog flow to a procedure step when you want to modify the import views to
the procedure step.
- The current subset protection
for an object is displayed alongside the object giving an instant warning
if the object is already checked out in another subset, and thus you would
get downgraded access. You can also easily find out which subset contains
the protected objects.
